What to Do Before Your Wax Appointment
- Exfoliate Gently(24-48 Before): Use a mild scrub or exfoliating mitt to remove dead skin and help prevent ingrown hairs
- Let Hair Grow: Ensure hair is at least 1/2 inch long (about the size of a grain of rice) for best results--Usually about 2-3 weeks of growth.
- Shower Before Your Appointment: Clean skin helps wax adhere better and makes for a more comfortable experience
- Wear Loose Clothing: Choose breathable, loose-fitting clothes to avoid irritation afterward.
- Take a Pain Reliever (Optional): If you're concerned about discomfort, take ibuprofen 30 minutes before your appointment.
- Let Us Know About Medications or Skin Treatments: Retinoids, Accutane, and certain skincare products can make skin more sensitive.
What NOT to Do Before Your Wax Appointment
- Don't Shave: Avoid shaving for at least 2-3 weeks so there's enough hair to wax effectively.
- Don't Exfoliate Right Before: Freshly exfoliated skin can be more prone to irriation-- Give it at least 24 hours.
- Don't Apply Lotions or Oils: These can interfere with the wax's ability to grip the hair.
- Don't Tan or Use Sunbeds: Avoid tanning for 24-48 hours before your wax, as it can make skin more sensitive or lead to irriation.
- Don't Drink Excessive Caffeine or Alcohol: These can make your skin more sensitive during the service.
- Don't Schedule Right Before a Big Event: Some redness or sensitivity is normal--give your skin a day or two to calm down.
